Morongo Basin, CA

Morongo Basin is a very interesting locality, as well as home to many who gravitate toward eco-friendly communities to gain Youthful Evolution lifestyles, spirituality (of all kinds), and interchangeable support of like-minded people. This is among several reasons my husband and I find ourselves living here, at least part time.

About

Like so many others who tend to be drawn into the mystique of this desert community, Gary and I have had a number of insights, awakenings, intense growth, and spiritual experiences while living here…

It is a really cool thing to re-member a lot of great masters, prophets, teachings, heightened intuition, and spiritual experiences have taken place or been birthed in desert regions… locations that are often mistaken for being barren but in reality offer treasures of priceless insights and unforeseen wealth.

We have found it to be very humbling, intense, yet peacefully transitioning when we allow it to be. It is an awesome feeling to live in a place that offers such an intense course of self-exploration and provides you with answers. It is “cool” living in a place that helps you learn the answers to “why”?

What some often think of “growing pains” many of us view as transitioning with a sense of receiving teachings where we are learning to align ourselves with our spiritual beings or the process of evolution.

Much of reality lies in our own perception of life. The destination we seek will be a great one, but to be in the present is the key… because “Life is All About the Experience” and this desert community brings us just that!

For just a little tidbit of colorful basin history and to give you an idea of some the mystique and cool things that continue to go on around here I have included an article compliments of our local Hi-Desert Publishing Co: Spring 2011~ Basin Wide Spirit, Editor Kelly O’Sullivan. The article was written by Pamela Slayton-La Fosse, Special to Basin Wide Spirit:

Lying within the Mojave and Colorado Desert, Morongo Basin is only about 12 miles north of Palm Springs and well known for attractions such as Joshua Tree National Park, George Van Tassel’s Integratron, spirituality and vortexes (http://www.rajunasrefuge.com/vortexes.html or http://www.jtrcc.org/vortices/) among other treasures that lie within it’s desert sands.

The Morongo Basin is located in the High Desert region of Southern California. The area’s elevation can range from 1,950 feet (590 m) in Twentynine Palms, to 3,000 feet (910 m) in Yucca Valley.[citation needed] The terrain in the area is hilly, desert-type land. The great ancients known as the Yucca plant (which Yucca Valley is named for) and the Joshua Tree (which Joshua Tree, California is named after) are the most dominant plants in the region. The basin is also home to jackrabbits and coyotes.

Additional Gems/Tips

  • Yucca Valley UNFI Co-op/Club (YVFC) Join one of our local food co-ops it will not only help you trim expenses for everyday household items, but you can learn quite a bit from the group on Youthful Evolution /well-being (which is their focus) & other local places to shop for quality products.
    • The YVUC is a buying club affiliated with UNFI (Untied Natural Foods, Inc.) UNFI is known as “America’s Premier Certified Organic Distributor” the leading independent national distributor of natural, organic and specialty foods and related products including nutritional supplements, personal care items and organic produce, in the United States.
    • A personal message from our chief:
      • Thanks for your interest in Yucca Valley UNFI Co-op. I began this group back in 1991 with a core group of people that are still active members of the group. We are currently looking for members who are willing to come and participate in our monthly splits meetings, which fall on the first Monday of the month, usually held in someone’s home, at 6:30 (currently Darlene Lester’s home in Joshua Tree).
      • The purpose of these meetings are to support each other in purchasing large quantities of items, since most items from UNFI are bulk quantities or cases of 12. The meetings generally last an hour to an hour and half.
      • I charge $5.00 per person per order. I ask that you order for your personal use only and that if you are ordering items for another person not in the group, you keep those lines to a maximum of three (you are responsible for payment). In addition to my $5.00, there currently is a shipping fee that UNFI charges (fluctuates with gas prices) that is split equally among each member ordering.
      • To find out what UNFI is about you can go to www.UNFI.com.  Their catalogs are only available online and to access them requires membership login information. If you become a member of our group you will be provided information to access them.
      • After our Monday meeting, I place the order and everyone is expected to arrive at our local UNFI delivery spot  at 5:30 the following Friday to “breakdown” the order. Your invoice is emailed to you at which time prompt payment is expected and if payment is delayed, communication is appreciated. That’s it in a nut shell… if you have any questions please feel free to call me or email me.Kathy Garcia
